Karyn Greenstreet: First of all, let me tell you that I did read the book and it is fantastic! I love what you have done, really! I love how you worked through all the information about focusing, mind set, attitude, the psychology of it, the intuitiveness of it, and also teaching people how to shift their focus. I also loved the whole part in the back where you are talking about working with other people and maybe they don't really need to be healed and how do you handle that. It is great! I left it on the coffee table. My husband came around and the book suspiciously disappeared. Tonight when I asked him where the book was, he told me that I couldn't have it! I had to promise him I would give it back to him.

Marcia Emery: I'm excited that this book has such a wide appeal.

KG: I think so many people need this kind of information because they need to understand that they have some power in their own health. I think this book is excellent that way. Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you came to write this book? What was it that inspired you to do this?

ME: I had a part time job. I was the Director of Development of an organization. I was down in the dumps with a mild depression. My footing in the world slipped when the job ended. After 3 and a half months it didn't work out. I was fatigued. Here I am in a big house, new place, new state, new area and suddenly I think what will I do next? The tears constantly welled up in my eyes. Everything caught up with me.

I started reading Joan Borysenko's book, "Fire In the Soul." It was so inspiring. Finding this book was wonderful because it addressed the awakening of the soul from despair to optimism.

Every morning I would sit and pose a question to my intuitive mind and listen for the reply. Things weren't going well. One morning I posed a question and heard, "you need to start writing again." I listened to this sage advice and within two weeks I felt the sunshine again. As I was writing about Intuitive Healing, the passion was reawakened in my soul.

KG: You had no inner guidance that something was wrong even before to job ended? Did you tap into your inner guidance before then or what exactly was going on?

ME: I always tap into my inner guidance. I had taken a fall four months before I moved which was a strong signal to me. It is not like I didn't know something was wrong. I knew I had a emotional, spiritual and mental dysfunction or disconnect and that I wanted to heal myself. My vitamins weren't helping. There really wasn't anything else that I could do. By sitting down and writing I was getting in touch directly with my inner wisdom or intuition.

KG: This is more about physical health? Even though physical health may be part of what you are looking to heal when you are searching for your inner guidance about this, it could be more than that?

ME: There is always a lesson. Wellness is accomplished with the mind, body, heart and soul in sync. When each communicate without interference, a sense of harmony results and the individual feels totally aligned and balanced. A lesson is to be learned when any of these four facets are out of alignment. For example, you may have a gum problem which is physical. But the lesson is to figure out why you are keeping your mouth shut when you need to speak out. You may feel emotionally afraid or mentally tired. So you are connecting that to the physical ailment.

KG: You decided to then write this book. What was the purpose of this book? Was it a personal journey for you? Was this something that you were expressing for others? How did that manifest into an actual book with topics and ideas?

ME: Teaching people to cultivate their intuition is my passion and life's work I teach it. I write about it. I talk about it. I make tapes about it. In any form that I can. I had already gone into my second book. I already had the manuscript. I had interviewed 160 people about their use of intuition in decision making and that wasn't getting a strong green light from the publishers. So, I said, what is the next area that I really want to explore with intuition. I was so concerned with my own health. It was my journey, but my journey is to give it back to the rest of the world. When I look through the pages of this book, I can't believe what came through me. I call it a healing manifesto. Just a map of the Wellness Trail, a path to walk for a lifetime, guided by your intuition or inner physician.

KG: You talk about this wellness trail and this inner physician.
What types of ways can people receive this information, this guidance about their health? Can they really know in advance about things that are happening?

ME: One of the ways that you can get information is through your
dreams. Let's go back to how the intuitive mind speaks, which is in
symbols, images, pictures and metaphors.

So, when you are dreaming, what you are doing is that you are getting a picture that you need to decipher. Can I give you an example? I dreamt that a tall woman doctor gave me a diagnosis of cancer. In this dream I was absolutely stunned by this pronouncement. I called the doctor a quack and a phony for trying to make me believe that I had this dreadful disease. I woke up and my heart was beating and it was so real. I dutifully noted it in my dream book. I didn't want to hold on to that image, but it was so strong. I forgot about it.

Months later, in real life, I made an appointment with a skin doctor I had never met. I wanted to have a red bump on my nose examined. I am lying there on the table and I felt a real surge of pain right in my nose. I look up and I see the doctor sewing up my nose and there is blood spurting. I was absolutely appalled. I only came for an opinion.

He didn't ask me anything. Here I am a public speaker and he explained that he needed to cut a piece out of my nose for a biopsy to see if I had skin cancer. I might mention that this doctor I had never seen before was a short male. Notice the correlation with my dream. In my dream there was a tall female and he was a short male. Dreams are always fascinating because we always get this dream reversal. Here was this doctor who was so convinced that I had cancer and he is already urging me to have this series of cancer treatments. My head was spinning. When I finally called when the biopsy came back several days later he said that I didn't have cancer. The test was benign. He suggested that I have a series of cancer treatments anyway. Suddenly the dream popped right into my head real, real strong. I was guided by that dream, where I called the doctor a quack and a phony for trying to insist that I had cancer. I heard his diagnosis as I remembered that dream. I had to say to the doctor, "How can this cost me $1200? Thanks, but no thanks."

Weeks later I went to another doctor and I had a clean bill of health. Can you see how this alerted my intuitive mind? It foreshadowed this wrong diagnosis.

KG: You said that in the one dream, this other woman had her inner physician come to her. Who is this inner physician and how can a regular person get in contact with them? You don't look in the yellow pages, you know!

ME: My pal is the inner physician or the intuitive mind and it is really wonderful. It can reach into this healing pouch and prescribe if I have a heavy dose of the flu or a tummy ache. The inner physician can reach in and prescribe that ounce of prevention or timely remedy for whatever is going on. This inner physician is of course the intuitive mind.

We can call it many names. We can call the inner physician inner healer or inner guide or inner helper or health advisor or higher mind or higher self -- whatever we choose -- or just inner mind. I just like the phrase, the inner physician.

I don't mean to be facetious, but why would we want to develop this inner physician? Why not just go to a doctor?

ME: Did you see what happened to me? If I went to a doctor, I would have been out $1200 for an operation I didn't need. So, why do we go
the inner physician? To take the responsibility to validate what is going on with our health. This is all about responsibility.

KG: Marcia, can everyone do this? How does the average person
walking down the street even get started trying to do this?

ME: This is what excites me. Everyone can enjoy radiant health. That might sound like a very bold statement because we know there are people with major illnesses all over the world. The inner physician, the inner healer, can guide you to a state of radiant health that you desire and deserve. When I use that word radiance, I am thinking of people I know who have a major illness and there is still a quality of radiance that comes from them. Though miraculous healings can occur, it is really simplistic to assume that anybody can read my book, apply the practices, and instantly turn a devastating illness into well being. What they can get is the breakthrough perspective. They can see the deeper meaning of any ailment -- way beyond the physical -- to see the interaction between the body, mind, heart, and soul and know what is going on here. They will know what steps to take to address the causes. They can then begin to process this.

KG: Can you talk a little bit about of how what we believe affects our health and our intuition? What if he really didn't believe he could do this or if he really didn't believe he could ever get rid of her?

ME: The amazing thing I see, as I am going out and speaking to many groups of people and I always give them an exercise when I speak to them. I am not just talking about workshops. I am talking about lectures, book signings, and so on. People come up with the most puzzling symbols and they have no idea about the underlying meaning. They don't believe it, but yet they are going along and something comes up and when we unravel that it is like their own proof. As the English say, the proof is in the pudding.

They are finding out for themselves what this means. Let me address that a little more directly. If you believe it is not going to happen, it won't happen. I have a line from Oscar Wilde, "The doctor says Dunbary will die, so Dunbary died."

KG: So, when your doctor said you had skin cancer and if you hadn't gotten information in advance, you might have believed it.

ME: Without a doubt.

KG: That is not to say that doctors aren't sometimes right. We can't turn around and say doctors are always wrong, but it is good to have a second opinion of your inner physician as well.

ME: That is the idea. The inner physician is validating the outer physician.

KG: Marcia, in your book you give a lot of exercises and they are great. What is your favorite exercise? If someone were to be starting this, what would be an exercise that really just seems to work well with people and you enjoy it yourself?

ME: I like to invite people to hear the intuitive body speak. We could go into the body -- into an ailing area -- and often when I start talking to a group of people I will say is there anyone in this room who has had an ache or a pain in the last week? Everybody puts up their hand and they laugh. They all have something from a hangnail to a headache to something more serious. The idea is that I am asking people to go into that area, like with me it is my right knee, and to go in and see an object. If there were an object in that area, what object would you find there? What would you see in your knee? I could use any one of a number of metaphors, sometimes color in addition, or if there were a song in there, what song would it be? When I go into my knee, I saw sagging rubber bands. Here is an idea where we use the imagery to see the sagging rubber bands and I use the imagery to make them more taught. I was tightening the rubber bands. Then when I looked into that area for color, I saw light blue. That light blue reminded me of the igloos, pictures in ice advertisements. That was a very strong intuitive message that I needed to keep this knee cooled and avoid any kind of excess heat. I was going to the hot tub. When a song popped up, I heard the golden oldie, "You'll Never Walk Alone." At first I wondered if I needed crutches or a cane. Then I realized that my knee alone was not the problem, but my whole body needs treatment. It is the body, mind, heart and soul -- the whole thing.

KG: Some of the things that you talk about are pretty serious health challenges. What kind of suggestions can you give people for reversing these kinds of situations and creating a more radiant health in their life?

ME: I think the first thing is to take the responsibility again for what is the connection. Let me say this on a very simple level. I have heard people, even in my own family, say, "I have a cold because I sat next to someone with a cold."

To take the responsibility that we are going beyond the physical, when you sit next to someone with a cold, ask why you are vulnerable? Why are we attracting a particular illness in an area? It is not only in an organ, or in our immune system or in our shoulders, for example because we are trying to reach out -- so we need to ask what is going on here? To understand that, we really want to go beneath the symptom and look at that body-mind connection.

KG: If people are using imagery or dreams or whatever, is it helpful to write them down and then come back to them? Sometimes, as you said, people don't get it when they see a symbol or they get a song. How can they come around to understanding that?

ME: Okay, of course when I am working with people, it is a lot easier for them to get it. I get it very quickly with my strong intuition. As they are working with it, they can incubate. They can take time out. They can ask for a dream. One of the things that I ask them to do is to start dialoguing. I started to dialogue with my knee. The first thing the knee was telling me was that I am bent out of shape. Because your emotions are bent out of shape and your body is out of alignment. You need to get straightened out emotionally. You need to bend to the changing times and circumstances and be more flexible. This was interesting because I think of myself as a very flexible person. The second day I heard the knee say when I was dialoguing, you are out of joint and out of shape. Start exercising me gently. When you are ready to go out and go forward, I will be too. You are not only out of joint, but you are bent out of shape and you are putting too much weight on me. Each day I was getting different messages.

KG: A lot of it can be looked at as an example -- like your knee, what can knees do? They carry your weight, but they bend. They genuflect. There is humility. Out of all of these things that they physically do, but what could that mean on a more emotional or spiritual level?

ME: Right. You mentioned keeping a notebook. That is wonderful because you need to work with these things. If you don't get it right away you will as you begin to work with the amplification and the word association. You keep working with it and suddenly, that "ah ha" is very powerful. It does come through.

KG: Do you have other books and tapes that are coming up for you and how can people get in touch with you to learn more?

ME: I have a web site and my web site is called "Power Hunch." (http://www.powerhunch.com) I have a series of tapes on dreams that I made years ago. "The Intuitive Healer" is also on a two audio cassette tape published by Simon & Schuster. Nightingale-Conant has a series of six audiocassettes I made that is titled "Intuition: How To Use Your Gut Instinct For Greater Personal Power". They can see the products on the web site. Where I am going next is back to my work with intuition and business, which is back to power hunches.

KG: The book is available now?

ME: Yes, it is available in bookstores now.

KG: Do you have any final words of wisdom before we close for the
evening?

ME: Yes. To me, one of the whole things with reversing a health challenge and to create a healthy balance is to transform agitation and discomfort into productive healing solutions. We are trying to shift from woundedness to wholeness and to do that we are looking for our silver lining. We find our silver lining by examining the experience of a low time in our life. When I was depressed, it was writing this book, for example. That is my main thing, to say to people that they should create a scrapbook or collect quotes to represent their healing journey. I love to collect sayings. One of my favorite sayings is from Mother Theresa. "We must do small things for one another with great love." As you start collecting your quotes and collecting your stories about your journey and other peoples' journeys, you start putting these things into action. For example, when I start thinking of a small thing that I could do for someone with great love, whom could I smile at or whom could I give a call to? We are talking about realizing that people have the power to think themselves well. They can call on a tremendous resource from within. It is like positive thoughts, positive emotions, acts, and beliefs and this is what is going to create a happy and healthy body.

KG: That is fantastic. It is so true.

ME: Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to share and express my views on using intuition for healing.

KG: Thank you and thank you for the book. As I have said, we enjoy it and now I have to give it back to my husband!
