In its 10 years of existence, CEDOICOM has developed innovative projects aiming to reach social groups that are still not considered within public politics. For example, with the exception of CEDOICOM, there is no other non-governmental institution in Rio de Janeiro of developing women working with Negra lesbian women in which its segment triples the discrimination: for the woman, for the Negra and for the lesbian.
CEDOICOM also executes a project specifically for taking care of internal women or inmates of the prison system. Another program considerably pioneered in Rio de Janeiro is our project, Forum of Young Negras to Combat Violence, through which young Negra women between 16-24 years old are congregated to discuss and find solutions to questions in their lives regarding racism, violence, unemployment, self-esteem, among other concerns. Among these diverse projects developed by CEDOICOM, we highlight three permanent ones here considered innovative in Rio de Janeiro.

PROJECT FAMILY CONSCIENTIOUS-PREVENTION!

This project's main objective is to develop activities of awareness about citizens' rights towards healthy sexuality and for the increase in self-esteem of impoverished women, Negras and/or lesbians who are found inside the female prison units in Rio de Janeiro. Beyond the public, this projects extends its activities to families and to social educators (penitentiary agents) in the prison units.
The working actions in this project help make possible better chances of reintegration and re-adaptability in society when they are released from prison. Throughout these three years, this project has extended its objectives and has helped also with activities forming preventive attitudes towards the transmission of AIDS and the abundant STI's found inside the female prisons of Rio de Janeiro.

COLLECTIVE LESBIANS OF RIO DE JANEIRO

Program COLERJ develops activities through specific ideologies aiming at overcoming the social stigmata of the preconceptions against lesbian women in Rio de Janeiro. Through lectures, debates, workshops, orientation and legal/psychological assistance, we look to create action and strategies that inhibit lesbophobia, sexism and the other forms of oppression against lesbians.
